The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) is working with the South Dakota Department of Health in seeking individuals possibly exposed to a rabid puppy or the puppy’s littermates.

As children are heading back to school, the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) is reminding North Dakotans to pay attention to pedestrians. Drivers should diligently watch for children who may dart out between cars or cross the street without looking.

The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) and the American Cancer Society North Region are pleased to report that the percent of teens in North Dakota receiving the first dose of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has increased from 72.5% in 2017 to 76.7% in 2018 according to information released yesterday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A rabbit found in Sheridan County tested positive for Francisella tularensis, the
bacteria that causes the zoonotic disease, tularemia. The disease can be transmitted through direct
contact with blood or tissue of infected animals, inhalation of contaminated dust or aerosols, ingestion
of contaminated food or water, and through the bites of infected ticks and deer flies. Humans and
domestic animals are susceptible to tularemia, which can be life-threatening if untreated.

The State Health Council, the advisory body of the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH), will hold a meeting Wednesday, August 14, 2019, in Conference Room 212 located in the Judicial Wing of the North Dakota Capitol Building in Bismarck at 9 a.m. If special accommodations are needed for the meeting, please call 701-328-2408.

On August 13, the fourth medical marijuana dispensary in North Dakota is expected to open in Bismarck. Harvest of Bismarck is located at 1207 Memorial Highway.

The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) has confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) disease this season. The individual resides in McHenry county and was not hospitalized.
