Where to get a COVID-19 Test

Why Testing Matters

Expanding testing plays a major role in keeping North Dakota open. In addition to social distancing, mask wearing and washing your hands frequently, testing is a proven, effective way to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Identifying positive cases of COVID-19 early is the only way to quickly trace and isolate.

This will be especially important as university students return to school this fall. University student testing is not required, but highly recommended. Students can find testing locations, dates and times below.

When should I get tested?

Individuals with symptoms should be tested. Symptoms include Fever (100.4°F or higher)/feeling feverish, sore throat, new/worsening uncontrolled cough, difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of taste and/or smell.

Even if you aren’t showing symptoms but have had contact with an individual who tested positive, testing is still beneficial because asymptomatic individuals can spread the virus. The best time for asymptomatic individuals to get tested is 7-10 days after having contact with someone who tested positive.

Free Public Testing Events

Public testing is available to anyone who would like to be tested for COVID-19. There are regular testing events happening across North Dakota and new testing locations are added on a regular basis.

Proof of residency will not be required. The test takes about 15 minutes to complete (although the wait time may be longer).

Step 1 - Locate an event using the list below.

Step 2 - Pre-register at testreg.nd.gov to save time at the event. You can register on-site if you aren't able to pre-register. Please do not call the NDDoH public hotline to schedule your COVID-19 test, as the hotline is unable to schedule appointments directly.

Step 3 - All individuals will be notified of their results, positive or negative, within 72 hours of the test. Visit the Test Results webpage for more information on what to expect.
